First Words is a family-centered early intervention program for children from birth, up to the age of five, who meet the criteria set out in the BC Early Hearing Program. Our specialized interventionists work closely with each family to help their child develop listening and spoken language skills, enabling them to be confident and successful in everyday interactions.
Our Preschool program is for children who are deaf and hard of hearing who are between the ages of three and four. This program is designed to promote your child’s: physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. Careful consideration and adaptations are made based on the child’s listening and spoken language needs. This program is delivered five days a week (Monday to Friday) from September to the end of June.
Our Primary program for children who are deaf and hard of hearing is offered from Kindergarten to grade 3. This program is delivered five days a week (Monday-Friday) from September to the end of June. Lead by an experienced Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and an experienced Early Childhood Educator who help support your child’s physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and academic development.
Our Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing support teachers and students (with hearing loss) in independent schools. These services are delivered in person to students in Greater Vancouver and across BC through a combination of video-conferencing, regularly scheduled visits and ongoing communication with the student's team of professionals.
Our CHSC child care program is open to children with typical hearing and children with hearing loss. This integrated program is for children ages 3 to 5 and is offered five days a week (Monday-Friday) throughout the year including summer (some exceptions apply).
School pick-ups and drop-offs can be a challenging, especially for busy families. Our Before & After School Care gives families the flexibility they need in the morning and afternoon!
