3 year olds:       daily ½ day programme

                          (9:00 am to noon)

Pre-Kindergarten

4 – 5 year olds: daily full day programme

                         (9:00 am to 3:05 pm)

Children's Hearing & Speech Centre of BC offers a half-day preschool programme for 3 year-olds, and a full day programme for 4 and 5 year-olds. Children take part in age appropriate early education activities designed to develop their spoken language and listening skills. Auditory learning occurs individually and in small groups.

• Children come to school five days a week to learn together in small classes
• Classrooms are designed to meet the unique acoustical needs of children with hearing loss
• Parents and/or family members attend weekly one-on-one sessions with the teacher and child
• Take home activities support maximum learning both at home and at school

Throughout all Children's Hearing & Speech Centre of BC programmes, parents participate in tutoring sessions with their child and the teachers. This family-centered approach enhances parents’ abilities to use specific learning tools and to develop their child’s communication skills naturally in the home environment.

Our school programme includes children with and without a hearing loss. Hearing children are often siblings of a child with hearing loss enrolled at the centre, from nearby neighbourhoods or who speak English as a second language. The enriched language programme promotes early interaction among all children.
