Family Support & Resources

A family support worker is part of the Children's Hearing & Speech Centre of BC team, helping parents facing the challenges of raising a deaf or hard-of-hearing child. We offer support and information on parenting and family matters including siblings, extended family, community outreach, problem solving and communication. Periodically, group sessions are offered at Children's Hearing & Speech Centre of BC to provide families an opportunity to meet with other parents to discuss specific topics and to raise issues. Individual family support in-home is also available.

We offer:

  • Family support
  • An on-line parents forum and exchange (in development)
  • Networking events with other families
  • Literacy and research resources and information
  • On-site family room, computer, Internet and fax access

The Executive Director/Principal and specialist team of Children's Hearing & Speech Centre of BC meet individually with parents to discuss appropriate programmes for their child. Regular parent information meetings are held to provide on-going education and transition support  for families within the programme.
